Description
Epona is a Celtic goddess of mares and foals, her Celtic name translates to ‘on horse’.
Epona is known as goddess of fertility with many sculptures and depictions of her including foals, cornucopia, ears of grain. She is also thought to lead souls in the afterlife ride. Epona is also frequently associated with the goddess Rhiannon Cymric due to their attachment with horses and companion to the dead.
Perceptions of the goddess changed under Roman leadership as a sovereign protector of cavalry.
