Anubis, the Egyptian God of Embalming and Death
It is thought that because Jackals were regularly sighted in Cemeteries, ancient Egyptians took Anubis to watch over the dead. Legends also describe Anubis performing the Embalming of Osiris upon his death. It is believed that priests wore masks of Anubis during mummification ceremonies
